Not Dead - Just Busy!

I hate it when bloggers post a “Sorry For Not Posting” post, but it looks like I’m going to have to do it today. I’m very sorry that I haven’t been able to post anything lately, guys, but I’ve been pulling very long hours at work - yesterday was the shortest work day in the past couple of weeks, at only 10.5 hours. Most days I’ve been coming home after the sun sets, which is pretty late in the summertime here in DC. Luckily, we’re about done on this project (*crosses fingers*), so I should get a bit more free time soon. I’ll also try to start grabbing the free moments here and there to write, rather than delaying writing until I have a big block of free time, since that doesn’t seem to be happening.

However, I’d love to hear what others of you are up to lately - feel free to comment here about whatever is going on in your busy lives!

It’s ok! We (or at least I) have feedreaders - we can wait patiently!

I’ve been delivering babies. Fun! Also long hours (arrive 5:30am, leave 7:30 or 8pm). Thus, much sympathy.

Well, as promised, here’s a link to a detailed recap of everything that happened at our wedding, complete with pictures! http://mocroidh.livejournal.com/650.html

Since we got back from our honeymoon we’ve kind of been laying low, just settling into married life, and slowly getting things back to normal. It’s been a little bit of an adjustment, but overwhelmingly positive… I’m taking some time off from work, and I think that’s been the biggest adjustment I’ve had to deal with - it’s really hard not to be doing anything after working for so long! But I think this is what I need to be doing right now, so I’m happy overall! :)

Great post and pictures, mocroidh! You had such a beautiful wedding day. Congratulations! :)

Mocroidh - what an amazing wedding! I love your mehndi design! And both your ceremonies looked gorgeous. I can’t believe you packed so much into one day! And I had no idea you are from California too! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Mocroidh- Great wedding pics! :) Thanks for sharing!

CT/Mocroidh - I’m in Cali too! Just not northern like I think both are you are from! :)

Nothing super exciting going on for me! :) Hmmm, I saw Kismet Konnection last week! Shahid Kapoor is a cutie! :)

Cool, P_D! There’s a real Cali connection around these parts!

I wanted to report that I attended my first “Indian picnic” (in words of M’s cousins) yesterday, and I found a new favorite Indian prepared food: corn on the cob. It’s not the corn itself that is so good, but the seasonings M’s family adds to it. They take a wedge of lime and dip it in a mixture of chili powder and salt and then rub it all over the corn. What an amazing combo of flavors - sour, spicy, salty, and sweet! Beats butter any day of the week as far as I’m concerned. We even put some of the seasoning on the watermelon, and it still tasted great!

CT, I made Indian corn on the cob a couple of days ago. I don’t think I’ll ever put butter on corn again!

Oooooh, I love Indian corn on the cob! My husband (it’s great to be able to say that now!) makes it sometimes by taking the ear of corn and holding it next to the flame on our stove, so that it gets nicely browned. Then he takes a half a lemon or lime and dips it in a mix of garam masala and salt and rubs it on the corn…yummy! We made it for my parents last month, and I think they loved it too!

Pale_Desi: I’m originally from far Northern California (like 2 hours south of Oregon), but I came to Southern California for grad school and I’ve been living here since ‘99 (almost 10 years now - wow!). Glad to know that some fellow Californians are here!

We just got back from a weekend trip up to Nor Cal to visit my parents - it was my mom’s birthday on Sunday, so we celebrated with her. We also picked up the rest of the wedding gifts that my parents had been saving for us. And I finally got the one thing that I really wanted from our wedding registry - a Kitchenaid standing mixer! I’m so excited to test out my new toy - now that my bangles from the wedding have come off and R’s mom will finally let me into the kitchen! :)

Microidh. Congratulations on your new status.in india it would be considered as good as a promotion (for you have someone you can boss around :p).the snaps were really nice and I liked the mehendi design too.contrary to popular belief indian women are pretty bossy with their husbands specially on matters related to booze and cigarettes!

GG:I wasn’t sure whether you would have liked the idea of mehendi.maybe I can arrange one for you when you visit india next time.

Hi Everyone!

At the risk of revealing my true identity, I thought I would share this with you guys. It’s the video of M proposing to me. He managed to surprise me at a Bridal Expo he was working at (I thought I was just there to take pictures of him speaking). If you look in the top left corner of the webpage, you can see our names written in Gujarati.

Less than 2 weeks until our wedding! I can’t wait!

Awwwww, CT, that was wonderful! What a great proposal…you guys look so happy together! Was it a complete surprise? From your expression I think you must have figured it out when he said he had something special to do… :)

I’m sure the wedding will be amazing…it’s really coming down to the wire now, isn’t it? Hope you’re getting enough sleep…I know that for about the whole month before my wedding, I was waking up literally every night at 3 AM, thinking about all the stuff I had to do… :)

CT - thanks for sharing… that was such an awesome proposal! :) I hope the wedding will be amazing! :)

Thanks, mocroidh and P_D! I think I did figure it out a split second before he did it, but not a moment before. I’m still amazed that he was able to surprise me at all - I thought for sure I’d see it coming a mile away.

And I know what you mean, mocroidh, there seems to be an endless list of things to do, and I just keep thinking of things to add to it! And if I have tie one more ribbon around something, I may go completely insane! :)

It’s okay GG, all of the blogs have been pretty quiet this summer. I think everyone is busy vacationing or just getting in extra work hours. I understand that part myself, plus, with the Texas heat wave, it just sucks the energy out of you, not leaving much behind.

CT, what a great video! Much luck to you and M at your upcoming wedding! :)

I saw this article about individualistic (ie Western) vs collectivist (ie Eastern) cultures and thought you all might be interested: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/12/opinion/12brooks.html IMO, it’s a little too generalized, but it’s interesting food for thought.

Gori come back! Want me to guest post on how the Director of the Phillipino Campus Crusade for Christ tried to Save me on a plane back from Seoul? I deflected his original intentions and got some good intercultural marriage info out of him…hehe.

Gori…wish we could be stay at home moms and have more time to write!!! Heheheh…

I’ve heard from a pretty reliable source that the prodigal GG will be returning to the blog world tonight…

@ mocroidh - lovely pictures! I really adore the design you chose for the mehndi. Let me know if you continue blogging, and I’ll add you to the roll on the side. (Also, I was born in Arcata - I’m orignially a way-up-north Californian girl.)

@everyone - it’s funny that you started a discussion about Indian-style corn on the cob, as I had mine for the first time a week ago. We just used lime and salt though - but it tasted so much better and healthier than gobs of butter! Maa also taught me a little trick to “roast” corn on the cob when you need some in a hurry: just put it right on the heated portion of a smooth-top electic range, heat it slowly, and turn it over everynow and then. Sounds crazy, but it tasted almost as good as the ones that were cooked over our dying coals on the BBQ.

@CaliforniaTransplant - thanks for sharing the video! Will we get to see wedding pictures in the future?
