I’m Dreaming of FIOS Internet…

So, we still lack internet at the new place, which means the lovely post sitting in Word on my laptop won’t be available to you guys until I can get to campus tomorrow morning. You’d think I’d remember things like this *before* I left for home, but you’d be so wrong. I blame lingering moving amnesia. (This miny post is coming to you via Aditya’s iPhone.) In an attempt to ward off any wrath (or disappointment), I offer up the following two articles on intercultural marriages with Indian partners:

The United Colors of Desi: More and More South Asians Are Marrying Outside Their Race
An article profiling several white-Desi couples. Also includes some gorgeous pictures of happy couples.

Nothing can prepare you
An article written by a male Canadian about his relationship with an Indian woman.

We want Gori Girl posts! We want Gori Girl posts! You are in high demand… no pressure though of course :)

Yay! More posts! :) thanks for the articles! :) I get so excited now when I see interracial couples (first article)! Makes me happy! :) hehehe

Just wanted to say great site, Gori Girl! I’m enjoying reading your posts so far and look forward to more!

And Im just dreaming of the desi suburbs, lol.
Cant wait to hear more from you… gg

@ NeoKalypso: it’s up now. Finally! And I’m still dreaming of having internet at home…

@ Pale Desi: glad you like the links. I’ll be getting more up at some point or other.

@ California Transplant: I’m glad you like the site. Where are you from in California, if I might ask?

@ Mirchi: What area of the US do you live in? Aditya and I put in our time in the Midwest (where we met, in college), and it’s certainly no desi suburb. :)

GG - I’m from the South SF Bay Area. What about you?

CT - GG is from south bay too… i lived in cupertino/sunnyvale for a year :-p

How cool, Aditya! I graduated from Cupertino HS. And the first Hindu temple I ever ventured into was in Sunnyvale! :)

Aditya and GG, is today (April 14th) Bengali New Year? I was just writing a friend an ecard and saw a Bengali New Year card listed with today’s date. Anyway, if it is, Happy Bengali New Year!

It gets cooler (and odder), CaliforniaTransplant. I, uh, graduated from Tino HS as well. Go Pioneers! And I’m pretty sure that the temple you’re referring to was right next to the apartment where Aditya was at in Sunnyvale.

This is really, really weird.

Oh, and yes, it is Bengali New Year. Yay!

I think this would be called the southeast. We have lived in places with lots of Indians, and had lots of friends(not to mention good groceries and restaurants) and I really miss it.
Well, there is one desi suburb but its about 45 mins from us.

This is why someone needs to come and visit me! lol

Thats a really neat coincidence (to you californians!)

Wow, GG! That’s an amazing coincidence - what a small world!

@ Mirchi: I’ve spent a couple of months in Atlanta, but that’s the closest I’ve gotten to the Southeast of the US. Don’t remember seeing a lot of desis around there, at least. Sorry to hear you’re without the groceries (so important!) and restaurants that tend to develop where there are a lot of immigrants from a particular region.

@ Mirchi & CaliforniaTransplant: yeah, it’s really odd. Tino isn’t even that large, as high schools go - large Asian/desi contingent there, and in the general area, though. :) I lived right next to a shopping center called Cupertino Village that was completely filled with Chinese/Taiwanese shops and restaurants (and one British pub).

Muhaha, I love fios internet..I just don’t like my bill ;)

I have to have cable internet because FIOS is not available in my neighborhood… I HATE comcast.

We thought we were going to have to go with the local COX monopoly (which makes Comcast look like an angel), but our neighborhood was *just* wired for FIOS.

LUCKY!

We used to have COX cable when I was a kid..it was HORRIBLE. It was just the company itself. Since having my own apartment, I have tried peoplepc…which was okay at first, then it got to the point it wouldn’t stay connected because of overload. Then I went to Verizon Broadband, and can say I was usually pretty happy with it. When I was given the option to get FIOS, I took it because it saved me a few bucks and was convenient to have everything in just one bill. I really appreciate being able to watch the news when the weather is bad too, and the stupid satellite not always going out just because a BIRD landed on it!

Well, we do have some groceries and restaurants. They just arent that good, hehe. I think I largely miss having that group of friends.

Wish some of you lived closer!!!
